Situated in a quiet corner of North Yorkshire, just outside the pretty market town of Selby, Carlton Towers is an awe-inspiring house that on first glimpse, almost takes your breath away.  And inside the period furniture and décor and opulent interiors make stunning backdrops in your wedding photos.

This magnificent stately home in Yorkshire, with a rich history that dates right back to 1086 with a mention in the Domesday Book, sits in over 30 acres of private parkland.  The house has over 800 years of rich history, and a rare gothic exterior, imposing clock tower, dramatic sweeping staircases and magnificent State Rooms.  Making it a favourite location for film and TV productions.

Wedding ceremonies take place in their stunning Venetian Drawing Room that has high ceilings, a feature fireplace and a row of exquisite ceiling chandeliers.  Couples say their vows in front of beautiful large oak doors with light flooding in through the large windows.  It really is a dramatic setting that is perfect for a wedding ceremony.  The Venetian Drawing Room that can seat up to 150 guests for a ceremony, and 96 guests for a sit-down meal.

The Picture Gallery is also licensed to host civil ceremonies and is ideal for large weddings as it can seat up to 220 guests for a wedding ceremony and 144 for a sit-down meal. The Picture Gallery lives up to its name as its walls are adorned with historic works of art.

For smaller more intimate weddings The Card Room or Armoury are ideal.  Both stunning spaces, they ensure that even the smallest of weddings get as much grandeur as the larger celebrations.  The Card Room can accommodate 45 guests for a wedding ceremony and 36 for a sit-down meal.  And the atmospheric Armoury is perfect for small weddings and is the perfect space to welcome guests for an arrival drinks before the ceremony. If you’re looking for a more traditional wedding ceremony, stunning Selby Abbey is just six miles away and can accommodate a massive 500 guests.

Wedding Photography at Carlton Towers

When I capture wedding photography at Carlton Towers, I love winter weddings as the state rooms really come to life when lit with atmospheric candles and Christmas decorations.  And in summer months, you can choose an outdoor wedding in the beautiful Walled Garden Vineyard which is perfect for summer ceremonies outside.  And for larger celebrations outdoors a luxury marquee can be erected on the lawn.  Carlton Towers really is a wedding venue for all seasons.

One of the many things I love when I capture wedding photography at Carlton Towers, is the way the state rooms flow from one to the other between large oak doors that can be thrown open to connect the spaces.  Guests can enjoy arrival drinks by the roaring fire of The Armoury, attend the wedding ceremony in the Venetian Drawing Room, then a drinks and canapes reception in the Bow Dining Room and a wedding meal in the Picture Gallery.

This also allows the team at Carlton Towers the time and space to prepare every area in advance, so that weddings always run smoothly.

For the wedding meal, you can choose to have your tables set as long tables feast style or traditional round tables.  The in-house team of chefs work with each and over couple to create bespoke wedding meals that really wow wedding guests.  Covering everything from elegant canapes, to seasonal roasts, to a ploughman’s table to tasty fresh pizza served from a horsebox.  And with a vineyard on site, it’s fair to say your wedding drinks menu is in safe and experienced hands!

Another unique selling point of Carlton Towers is that they offer dry hire.  This is rare for a wedding venue of this calibre.  This allows you to bring your own catering team who are given full use of the in-house kitchens.  This, coupled with the fact that they can accommodate up to 500 wedding guests, makes Carlton Towers a great venue for Asian weddings.

When it comes to guest accommodation, there are 16 beautifully appointed rooms in the main house that can sleep up to 31 guests.  Along with some cosy cottages that are tucked away on the estate just a few minutes’ walk from the house.  They can sleep a further 24 guests.  In addition to this there’s a wealth of guest accommodation close by.  Everything from five-star hotels with spas, to camping, to boutique B&B’s, to cosy pub inns.  As well as a host of Airbnb and other properties.
